Collection description

Scope and content:: The fonds contains the statutes of the Jewish Religious Community of Hradec Králové, meeting minutes, correspondence, election records, personnel records, registry records, financial records, social welfare records, files relating to the construction of the local synagogue, documents of the burial society (chevra kadisha), cemetery layout plans, files of a Jewish school, and women's association records. It also contains the community's cash books, which were kept until the early 1940s.

Archival history:: The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.

Administrative/biographical history:: Jewish settlement in Hradec Králové is documented from the end of the 14th century until 1652, when the Jews were expelled. Jews began to resettle the town in the mid-18th century. A modern-day religious community was established there in 1864. It was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War but subsequently resumed its activities.
