Scope and content:
The fonds contains a rabbinical examination certificate (1942), documents on education attained, a list of lectures and written work relating to the rabbinical examination.
Archival history:
The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
Administrative/biographical history:
Eugen (Benjamin Meir) Springer was born in Prešov, Eastern Slovakia, on 4 July 1911. He was allowed to take the rabbinical examination on the basis of completing the 6th year of an upper secondary school in Frankfurt am Main, a two-year preparation programme at a seminar for religion teachers in Prague, four years of halakhic study at yeshivot in Huncovice, Trnava and Bratislava, three years of study at a rabbinical college in Frankfurt am Main, and five semesters of philosophy classes at universities in Frankfurt am Main and in Prague. He took his rabbinical examination on 9 November 1942. He was deported from Prague to the Terezín ghetto (Transport Cv) on 6 March 1943 and to Auschwitz (Transport Em) on 1 October 1944.
