Collection description

Scope and content:: The fonds contains a book of the burial society (chevra kadisha) and a ledger from the affiliated community of Bolíkov.

Archival history:: The records came to the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague from Slavonice in the 1970s.

Administrative/biographical history:: The earliest reference to a Jewish settlement in Písečné dates from 1674, but it was not until the 18th century that a larger settlement emerged there. There is no extant information about the origin of the Jewish religious community of Písečné, but it was already in existence in the 19th century. The Jewish Religious Community of Dolní Bolíkov (Wölking) was attached to that of Písečné in 1891. The Písečné community was disbanded after the annexation of the Sudetenland by Nazi Germany in 1938. It did not resume its activities after the Second World War.
