Archival history:
The records were incorporated into the archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague during the Second World War as part of shipments of material from Jewish religious communities that had been disbanded.
Administrative/biographical history:
Jewish settlement in Votice may have existed from the end of the 14th century. The earliest written record of this settlement dates from 1538. A Jewish religious community already existed there in the first half of the 16th century. This prominent and populous community was the seat of the regional rabbinate. It was disbanded by the Nazis during the Second World War and did not subsequently resume its activities.
