Jewish settlement in Poběžovice is documented from the 16th century. A Jewish religious community existed there from the 17th century and a prominent yeshivah was active in the town from the end of the 18th century. Poběžovice was the seat of the regional rabbinate in the first half of the 19th century. The community was disbanded after the annexation of the Sudetenland by Nazi Germany in 1938. It did not resume its activities after the Second World War.
