- Scope and content:
- The records created by the Białystok County Office for Industrial Tax Assessment contains documentation including lists of industrial tax payers from 1904-1914 living in Bialystok county. The collection includes additions to registers of houses as well as information regarding property owners in Białystok in 1910 (including Jewish owners).
- Archival history:
- The records were evacuated to Russia during World War I. There are archival references on the covers of the records which show that they were stored in the state archives of the USSR in Grodno. In 1963, as part of the reclamation of archives, the records were handed over to Poland and, in accordance with the principle of territorial affiliation, they were included in the resources of the Provincial State Archives in Białystok, where they were registered in the Provincial State Archives’ register of acquisitions under no. 434.
- Administrative/biographical history:
- A joint office called the Tax Inspector of Białystok County was established in 1885, in the town of Białystok and Białystok County. In connection with the establishment of the Inspector’s office, an organisation of industrial tax authorities was also established. Originally, there was one joint office of the Tax Inspector of the Białystok county for both the town and county of Białystok, from which, over time, two sections of the town tax inspection were separated. The tax inspectors relevant to each administrative area stood at the head of the industrial tax assessment offices. The Bialystok County Office for Industrial Tax Assessment, apart from the assistant tax inspector, also included representatives of local manufacturers. The office was evacuated to Russia in 1915 due to the war. Its formal liquidation took place in 1918.
